Welcome to the Shatz Lab!

The Shatz Lab research centers on how brain circuits are tuned up by neural activity and experience during critical periods of development before and after birth. Our work is relevant not only for understanding developmental brain disorders, such as Autism and Schizophrenia, but also for understanding and treating neurodegenerative disorders of aging such as Alzheimer’s disease. The lab employs a variety of approaches in our studies, ranging from molecular biology to slice electrophysiology to in vivo imaging to behavior.

Meet the team

Carla Shatz, Ph.D is a SAPP Family Provostial Professor, Professor of Biology & Neurobiology, and Catherine Holman Johnson Emeritus Director of Stanford Bio-X that leads a team of researchers.
